Tilted mirrors often found in shoe shops have been the inspiration for this cabinet, due to the mirror angle the users can look at their choice of shoes from up close. This function has been incorporated into an elegant piece of furniture, which has especially been designed for the entrance hall. Through this modification the cabinet appears individual and is at the same time very useful. The angle of the mirror has been carefully chosen to allow the customer to examine his or her shoes without stepping away too far from the cabinet, especially for narrow corridors this is a great advantage.

The Inspiration for this series of 19 vases, accessories and lights derives from a phenomenon we have noticed in Paris and London. In the city center a lot of street furniture, like junction boxes, lamp posts and bollards are covered with a extraordinary stucco-like coating. We instantly liked the visual and haptic quality and later found out, that it was a special anti-fly-poster-coating to prevent people from putting stickers and posters everywhere.

The project was on display at Gallery S. Bensimon in Paris part of an exhibition called Natural Indigo.

The assignment was to create a Design-Kit that would allow the Spritz affectionados to enjoy their favorite drink everywhere in the city.

The inspiration for the Design-Kit was a simple orange, an inherent part of the proper preparation of the classic Spritz. Fittingly the fruit crate is the perfect frame for the Aperol Spritz Kit. The wooden crate, built to transport all kinds of things, has become more than simply a commodity. It has become a subject that triggers emotions. Whether it is a market in Italy, a harbour on the Cote d’Azur or a corner-shop in the South Seas – the wooden crate inevitably evokes a positive feeling. This feeling of warmth and relaxation also arouses in those who reach for the crate to mix themselves an Aperol Spritz.

With the orange being the central theme, the glasses are wrapped in branded parchment paper and Aperol logo, looking just like an adhesive label one can find on fruits.

Straw Lounge is a lounge chair constructed entirely of steel. What makes Straw and Straw Lounge unique is the way in which the tubular steel has been deformed. Instead of forming the frame in gentle bends, the steel tubes are folded. Folds and kinks are the most obvious way to deform a tube, but the contrast with the otherwise rounded shape of the tube produces a result that seems almost to have been fashioned by hand.

A family of tubular steel furniture with kinks. The tubing used in the furniture is not bent – as is normally the case – but rather functionally folded, dented and kinked. The chairs, tables and other furniture derive their final form and function by means of this intentional process of “damaging” the tubular steel: the process’ traces, which would normally be regarded as defects, are in fact integral to the furniture’s design.

The series “KINK” consists of a table, chair, writing table, cantilever chair, sideboard, shelf, coffee table and floor lamp made exclusively of tubular steel, pine wood and clamps. All exhibited objects are part of a small limited edition and exclusively available at HELMRINDERKNECHT contemporary design gallery.
